School Supplies Donation Drive
Community Education Support Initiative
Background & Context
Access to quality education remains a significant challenge for children in informal settlements across Uganda. Schools in communities like Kireka, Kampala, operate under constrained conditions with modest wooden structures, limited funding, and heavy dependence on external support.
Bright Future Infant School serves young learners but faces chronic shortages of exercise books, chalk, geometry tools, and writing materials.
Asili Caring Hand, together with Japanese volunteer partners, organized a School Supplies Donation Drive on Christmas Eve 2024 to equip teachers and pupils with essential learning tools.
Key Objectives
- •To donate educational materials including exercise books, chalk, geometry sets, and stationery to Bright Future Infant School.
- •To support classroom instruction by equipping teachers with large-format blackboard geometry sets and chalk.
- •To strengthen relationships between Asili Caring Hand, international volunteers, and local school communities.
Rationale & Justification
Chalk, exercise books, and pencils are non-negotiable foundations for learning. Without them, children cannot write or complete assignments.
This intervention ensured underprivileged children in Kireka could participate fully in early childhood education.
Activity Description & Field Execution
On 24th December 2024, the Asili Caring Hand team and Japanese volunteers visited Bright Future Infant School in Kireka, Kampala.
Handover Ceremony & Classroom Distribution
The team formally handed over bundles of exercise books, boxes of white chalk, and large-format blackboard geometry tools to school administrators. Following the handover, individual exercise books and pencils were distributed directly to 138 pupils across classes.
Classroom Observation
Volunteers observed lessons in session, seeing immediate utility as teachers conducted chalkboard exercises with the donated geometry sets and chalk.
Key Results & Impact Achieved
Handed over complete classroom supplies: exercise books for all 138 pupils, multiple boxes of chalk, and teacher geometry sets.
Direct distribution of stationery items to 52 boys and 86 girls.
Fostered strong cross-cultural partnership between Japanese volunteers and the local school community.

Basic learning supplies significantly boost pupil morale and classroom engagement in underserved urban areas.
Cross-cultural volunteer engagement inspires global solidarity and local community motivation.
